Bryan Brothers oust Dlouhy/Dolgopolov to reach quarterfinal – Western & Southern Open 2011
World number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of the United States got through the quarter-finals of Western and Southern Financial Group Masters, after taking down the combination of Lukas Dlouhy of Czech Republic and Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in the second round clash on Thursday after noon.
Being a part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Master Series, the competition was staged on the outdoor hard courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, near Cincinnati, United States. The top seeded pair of Bryan Brothers went through some tough times before they finally ended up the contest in their favour at 6-2, 4-6, 10-1, taking less than an hour’s play to advance to the quarter-finals of Cincinnati Masters.
The duo of Dlouhy and Dolgopolov fought valiantly in the game but lost their way in the last moments of play to finish the contest on the losing end. They hung in the game for merely 56 minutes of play but posed some serious resistance to the world number one pair before submitting.
The Bryan Brothers delivered 65 per cent of their serve on target and secured 24 out of 30 first serve points in the matchup to oust Dlouhy and Dolgopolov from the competition. Bob and Mike registered their first serve break of the day in the fourth game of the match and then held serve to get a substantial position in the set at 4-1.
A second break point conversion from the American duo sealed the first set for them at 6-2 but Dlouhy and Dolgopolov made a very strong comeback in the following set. They broke the Bryan Brothers in the fifth game and then held their advantage to close out the second set at 6-4, levelling the matchup with one set a piece.
Tide turned in the decider again, with Bob and Mike absolutely devastating Dlouhy and Dolgopolov to race to victory at 10-1. They will now take on the seventh seeded Pole duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the next encounter to get a place in the semis of Cincinnati Masters.
