Bryan Brothers oust Granollers/Lopez to enter the final showdown – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
Defending champions, Bob and Mike Bryan, stomped over the Spanish duo, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, in straight sets at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012 on Saturday. They nudged up a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory against the Spaniards to charge into the title-round
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) clay court event taking place in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Monaco.
The top seeded Americans warded off late resistance to outclass Granollers and Lopez in one hour and 36 minutes. Encounter each other for the first time, Bryans high-spiritedly advanced into the final round at this Masters 1000 event and inched closer to
shelve their 78th career title.
Bob and Mike assertively entered the Monte Carlo Country Club and held their opening serve with poise. They maintained consistency in their game and plucked their entire serves without facing any barrier. The Americans got the breakthrough in the last game
and bagged the opener by winning six games to four.
Ranked 3rd in the ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Bob and Mike lost their path towards the proceeding set and suffered the first blow in the opening game. However, they quickly counterattacked by snatching their break back in the very next game
and levelling the scores at 1-1. Later the Americans sought six break opportunities but squandered them, ultimately dragging the set to the tie-breaker. They cruised to a 4-1 lead in it before pulling out the victory with a 7-6(5) score line.
Summing up the American Twins’ performance at this epic battle, Bob and Mike clobbered an equal first serve share of 68 per cent and spectacularly clicked 36 out of 45 points on it. They brushed off three out of four breakpoints they faced and capitalised
on two out of 12 break opportunities to their advantage. The high flying Americans spilled three double faults but committed fewer errors which made the difference.
Next up for Bryans is the winner of the match between second seeds, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, and the third seeded Junction, France’s Michael Llodra and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic. The American twins needs to play in a similar way in order to defend their
title.
