Bryan Brothers prove too good for Lindstedt/Tecau in RR – Barclays ATP World Tour Finals 2011
World number one American duo of the Bryan Brothers, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, from the United States powered their way through the sixth seeded pair of Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania, in their second Round
Robin matchup of the Barclays ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Finals on Wednesday night.
The top seeded Americans cruised through the contest in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, without facing any real challenge from Lindstedt and Tecau. The sixth seeded pair hung in the contest for just 54 minutes of play before crumbling
in the second set to fall 1-1 in Group A of the draw. Lindstedt and Tecau stunned the fourth seeded Indian Express of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes in their opening Round Robin matchup on Monday but badly failed to put up a decent performance against the
top seed duo this time round.
Registering their 60th victory of the current year, the Bryans have confirmed their berth in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals, with 2-0 lead in Group A. The Americans have already bagged eight doubles championship
titles in the running year so far and are well up to take the circuit ending mega event as well. Bob and Mike have won the ATP World Tour Finals on three prior occasions, in 2003, 2004 and in 2009, and are still the hot favourites for this year’s prestigious
trophy.
Lindstedt and Tecau their second straight sets defeat at the hands of the Bryans, as they were also outplayed by the top ranked duo in this year’s final of the Wimbledon Championships. The sixth seeded duo was completely blown
away by the Bryan Brothers in Wednesday’s matchup, failing to meet the calibre of the top seeds in every segment of the game.
Lindstedt and Tecau utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup, squandering away three vital chances to finish on the losing side in the end. Bob and Mike took the better of their opponents with four
timely breaks of serve, racing through the two sets in style. The Americans appeared absolutely unplayable in the matchup, dominating every minute of play to dump Lindstedt and Tecau in an assertive fashion.
The Bryans will play their last Round Robin matchup against Bhupathi and Paes, who desperately need a big win over the top seeds to remain alive in the race to the semi-finals.
