Bryan Brothers qualify for the Barclay ATP World Tour Finals in London – Tennis News
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have booked their place in the eight-team ATP World Tour Finals that will take place at the indoor O2 Arena in London.
Bryans grabbed enough points to conform their entry in the season ending championships, after they beat Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain in the final of Rogers Cup in Toronto on Sunday.
Sharing his happiness after getting the news of qualification for the ATP World Tour Masters, Bob said, “That's a big goal for all the teams when they start the year to make it to the O2. It’s an incredible venue. It’s a great
stage for the doubles, probably the biggest stage of the year, and to qualify means a lot to us.”
The twins have been quite successful recently, as they have won nine straight matches from the start of London Olympics. Bob and Mike won their first medal at the biggest sports event in the world in the first week of this month.
They defeated Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France to capture the doubles title at the Mega event.
Mike believes that his and Bob’s combination works well when they are happy. He shared that they have rose to the occasion on crucial moments in their recent matches.
He stated, “Maybe we're still riding high from the Olympics and we feel good. We always play better when we're happy. Right now we feel like even though it gets sticky and tough, we've been winning all the big points for the last
couple weeks; we did the same today.”
With this win, Bryans have become the second doubles team after the Belarusian-Canadian duo of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor to qualify for this year’s ATP World Tour Finals. Mirnyi and Nestor also booked their place for the season
ending championships last week.
The twins, who combine to make the most successful doubles team in the history of this sport, have won the ATP World Tour Finals three times in their career so far. They grabbed back to back season ending championships in Houston
in 2003-04 and then captured their third crown at the 02 Arena in London in 2009.
Bob and Mike also replaced Mirnyi and Nestor to become the number one doubles pair in this season. The twins have now attained a 360-point lead over their closest rivals, as they have 6,675 points compared to 6,315 by Mirnyi and
Nestor.
