Bryan Brothers slay Nieminen/Wawrinka to cruise into quarters – Western and Southern Open 2012
Second seeded American brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan, devastated the Finn-Swiss tandem, Jarkko Nieminen and Stanislas Wawrinka, with a bagel at the Western and Southern Open 2012 on Thursday. They jolted down a 6-0, 6-1 victory against their rivals to breeze
into the final eight at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event taking place in Mason, United States.
The American twins showed top notch performance to crush Nieminen and Wawrinka after reeling off the opening nine games. They recorded this success in half hour and assertively charged into the quarter-finals at this outdoor hard court tournament.
Bob and Mike, who are bidding for their sixth year-to-date title, stormed into the Lindner Family Tennis Center. They blasted powerful groundstrokes and wiped out all six games in a row, eventually pulling out the opener with a bagel. The Americans were
never threatened with any barrier and converted three out of five break opportunities to their advantage.
Ranked top in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, the Bryans maintained their intensity in the follow-up set. They got the critical break in the second game to jump to a 3-0 before their rivals could come on the score sheet. The Americans
bagged the last three games and clicked the set with an exceptional 6-1 score line. They again swiped their entire serves without facing any breakpoint and capitalised on two out of three break chances.
All in all, the brothers outclassed Nieminen and Wawrinka in every department of tennis. They smacked four and spectacularly clicked 20 out of 21 points on their first serve share of 68 per cent.
Next in queue for the Bryans are the eighth seeds, Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Netherlands’ Jean-Julien Rojer. The Pakistani-Dutch junction lost their serve once but cashed in three out of 10 break chances to formulate a 6-2, 7-6(4) score line in
80 minutes.
The top seeds, Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Canada’s Daniel Nestor, became casualty of the day. They crashed out to the Italian – Serbian duo, Andreas Seppi and Victor Troicki, in gruelling three sets in their opening match.
