Bryan Brothers top Erlich/Ram to reach final four – London Olympics 2012
Top seeded Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan, stomped over the Israeli tandem, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, in straight sets at the London Olympics 2012 on Thursday. They juggled up a 7-6(4), 7-6(10) victory against the Israelis to power into the semi-finals at Games of the x*x Olympiad held in London, Great Britain.
The American twins displayed perfect co-ordination to record their fifth straight victory against Erlich and Ram at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon. After registering this success in one hour and 41 minutes, Bryans improved to a 14-5 record in the head-to-head series against the Israelis and moved a step closer towards their maiden gold medal.
Mike brushed off three set points at 4-5 in the opening set which changed their momentum. He reflected, “That changed the momentum a bit. I hit all my first serves. We’re a front-running team, they are too. The second set was even bigger! We were down another set point. I got a second serve and Bob finished up with a forehand.”
Bob stated in a courtside interview after conquering the Israelis:
“We’ve played a lot of tie-breaks this week, luckily they’ve gone our way. But that’s what grass-court doubles is about – serving big, and taking the few opportunities we get. We played a lot of tie-breaks at Wimbledon a few weeks ago and nothing has changed.”
Bob and Mike high-spiritedly entered this major sports event taking place after every four years. They smoothly swiped their entire serves with conviction. Despite failing to break their rivals, the Americans prevailed in the tie-breaker and clicked the opener with a 7-6(4) victory.
Ranked top in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, the Bryans kept momentum sailing in the following set. They easily bagged their entire serves but again failed to get the breakthrough. However, the Americans edged past Erlich and Ram in the tie-breaker and eventually clicked the set with a 7-6(10) win.
Next up for the twins is the French tandem, Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet, who stunned third seeded Serbs, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
