Bryan Brothers tumble Qureshi/Rojer for final showdown – US Open 2012
Second seeded Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan, got the better of the Pakistani-Dutch tandem, Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer, in straight sets at the US Open 2012 on Thursday. They juggled up a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the ninth seeds to charge
into the title-round at this last of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Corona Park in Queens, New York City.
The American twins required a single break of serve in each set to carve out the victory in their sixth meeting against Qureshi and Rojer. After stealing the spotlight in one hour and 13 minutes, the Bryans improved to a 5-1 record in the head-to-head series
against the Pakistani-Dutch junction and secured a spot in the final round at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Bidding for their 12th Grand Slam trophy at the Flushing Meadows, Bob and Mike made a powerful start. They broke the Pakistani-Dutch’s opening serve and leaped to a 3-0 lead. The Bryans swiped their remaining serves without facing any barriers
and clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line.
The American veterans carried their winning ways in the following set and got the desiderated break in the opening game to take the initial lead. They amazingly warded off all three breakpoints they came across and held their entire serves with poise. The
Bryans cashed in one out of six break opportunities to pocket the set with a 6-4 win.
Summing up the veteran’s performance, Bob and Mike withstood 32 winners hammered by Qureshi and Rojer. They produced a better first serve share of 78 per cent as opposed to his opponent’s 71 per cent and impressively marked 47 out of 60 points on it.
Bob and Mike have lost a single set en route to the final showdown. They lost the opening set against 16th seeds, Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez and America’s Scott Lipsky, before overpowering them in the round of 16.
The Bryans will square off against the fifth seeds, India’s Leander Paes and Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek. The Indo-Czech tandem recorded a 6-6 retirement victory against the sixth seeded Spaniards, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.
