Bryan Fawley and Selene Yeager win fifth stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic: Cycling News
Orbea USA team’s Bryan Fawley won the fifth stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic on Thursday, June 2. Bryan Fawley took a lead over Sneddon and Jason Sager.
The stage ended in a tie with Sneddon, but since Bryan's two wins in the earlier stages, he grabbed the first place. He earned the top podium position by winning the two stages as compared to Sneddon’s one.
Bryan Fawley took a total of 43 minutes and 11 seconds to cover the distance of 45 kilometres. The fourth stage winner, Jason Sager of the Jamis team, came in at the third place with a difference of 57 seconds behind Kris.
With few kilometres left in the race-stage, the group of four riders made their break, including, Kris Sneddon (Kona), Jason Sager (Team Jamis), Bryan Fawley (Orbea USA) and Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale).
Kris Sneddon and Bryan Fawley gained an advantage of two minutes in the fifth stage. Jeremiah Bishop attacked and tried his best to join them, but he failed and grabbed the fourth place with a difference of 1 minute and 12 seconds behind Kris.
Jason Sager told the media, “I’m not going to get seven minutes on Bishop unless it’s a 10,000 foot climbing day and on paper he should still win so I’m focusing on Sneddon. I have to get him on the early climbs and then ride his pace on the technical trails,
which he’s really good at.”
Selene Yeager showed tremendous performance in women's classification and won the fifth stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic. She covered the track of 45 kilometres in 52 minutes and 26 seconds.
Amanda Carey of Kenda/Felt was in the second place with 1 minute and 39 seconds behind Selene, while Sue Haywood of Shenandoah Bikes, Kenda,Turner, I-9 team covered the distance with 54 minutes and 6 seconds and grabbed the third spot.
After winning the stage, Selene Yeager said, "I knew today was a day I could win because I’m a good starter and a good technical rider so I wanted to play to my strengths, I knew my chances of winning a lot of stages was slim this year because of the competition
so I wanted to get at least one and this was it."
The sixth stage, Rothrock Tussey Mountain, will start on June 3, and cyclists will cover the distance of 61 kilometres.
