Bryan Habana hopeful of Rugby World Cup title in New Zealand - Rugby News
Bryan Habana, who played a vital role in the Springboks victory during Rugby World Cup 2007, has stated the defending the title successfully will be a great challenge for his side. The South African side is passing through a tough period at the moment and
has lost three out of four matches in the recently concluded Tri-Nations Cup. Habana told journalists on September 4th that his squad is motivated and will put a great effort into the forthcoming RWC despite the heavy odds.
The South African team is struggling with its performance and is required to give their best in the upcoming global show, starting this week in New Zealand. The Springboks could win only one game in Tri-Nations Cup, scheduled to help the SANZAR nations assess
their World Cup preparations.
The Boks received heavy defeats in three consecutive matches and and are in miserable form right before the completion for the Webb Ellis Trophy starts. Even though large injuries also disrupted their preparation, their current on-field performances have
also been poor. They heavily relied on their defence and failed to make an impression in the last tournament played.
The Boks have landed on All Blacks soils to participate in Rugby World Cup 2011 are giving the final touches to their future line of action. Talking to the media in Wellington, Habana said that defending the title is at the forefront of plans for the Boks.
He added that “(It's a) tough challenge that we get laid on us as South Africa, but the pressure we put on ourselves as Springboks is much more pressure than anyone else puts on us. That expectation as South Africans, we're a very proud nation. We're very
proud of our rugby. It's one of the big sports that has been able to unite the country.”
Habana further said that the way the Boks have been sent off by their nation to New Zealand is really encouraging. He stated that, “Bar the physical side, the mental preparation for a World Cup, of getting yourself ready, having a send-off in South Africa
where 65,000 people say goodbye.”
South Africa will take on Wales on September 11 in Wellington in their opening game of RWC 2011.
