Bryan Holaday looking forward to career changing season – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers’ catcher Bryan Holaday is looking forwarding to a career changing season, reports freep.com. Holaday managed to make only six Major League Baseball appearances, hitting .250 with .250 On Base Percentage.
However, he now wants to secure a permanent place on the Tigers’ big league roster. According to sources, the catcher has already reported to Spring Training in Lakeland. He has already begun working out at the Tigers’ Spring Training facility in Lakeland,
hoping to bring improvement in his swing and throwing techniques.
Holaday made the decision to be based in Lakeland this offseason after Gerald Laird announced his signing with the Atlanta Braves. With the departure of Laird, Holaday is expected to become a full time Major Leaguer for the first time in his career. The
right hander, who was Tigers’ top Minor League catcher until last season, has suddenly become their Number two big league catcher behind Alex Avila.
Avila had a decent time on the plate in 2012 as he hit .243 with nine home-runs and 48 RBI’s. It will be interesting to see if Holaday can grab opportunities with both hands to impress Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland.
"It doesn't my change mind-set about what I was going to do this off-season," Holaday said of Laird's exit. "I prepare myself every off-season to be in the big leagues. I know that anything can happen at any given time. I'm as ready as I can be. That's all
I can do."
Holaday made the move after Tigers’ strength coach Javair Gillett suggested that he spend the offseason in Lakeland. At first, he thought Gillett was joking but then he considered the benefits of being in Lakeland. While working out at the Tigers’ official
training facility, Holaday will have an excellent opportunity to improve his skills.
2012 American League Most Valuable Player Miguel Cabrera and slugger Prince Fielder are also expected to report to Spring Training soon. Holaday, who made his MLB debut in June 2012, is yet to hit his first big league RBI. When he finally does that, he will
surely look back at all of the offseason work in Lakeland.
