Bryan LaHair shines in Chicago Cubs’ 2-0 win over San Diego Padres – MLB Spring Training
Chicago Cubs battled past San Diego Padres 2-0 at the HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona on March 26 in their Cactus League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Bryan LaHair will be extremely happy with his performance against the inform Padres. The striker is only two weeks away from breaking into Chicago’s big league Opening Day roster for the first time in his career.
The upcoming season will be of great importance for LaHair who has significant amount of minor league experience under his belt but just 65 at bats in MLB.
"I was struggling early, but I have been working on some things," LaHair said. "I'm going to hit no matter what, so it is a matter of timing. I am starting to feel comfortable at the plate and I am hitting balls hard."
The tall flamboyant left hander looked in supreme form in Cubs’ 2-0 win over San Diego Padres. LaHair helped his team made an aggressive start to the contest, hitting a double to the right centre field gap against Padres’ pitcher Tim Stauffer.
After making a very slow start to his 2012 Spring Training campaign, LaHair is showing the comfort level he is feeling right now. He averaged just .188 with the bat until March 18. Credit should be given to him as he improved his average to .280 with five
doubles and four RBI’s, going eight for his last 15 at bats.
Cubs Manager Dale Sveum was very pleased with what he saw from LaHair. "He is hitting almost .400 against right-handed pitching," Sveum said. "Confidence is everything, but the fact of the matter is he is hitting the ball well against right-handers."
LaHair was also the Most Valuable Player of the Pacific Coast League last season after he hit .331 with 109 RBI’s and 38 home runs. The first baseman will be hoping to continue his decent form throughout the season to become a permanent member of Chicago
Cubs.
Starter Paul Maholm also displayed some high quality pitching skills as he pitched five shutout innings with just four hits, striking out six and walking two.
