Bryan LaHair’s leadoff homer against Milwaukee Brewers elevates his morale – MLB News
As the Chicago Cubs struggled to maintain their hold in the game on Wednesday, August 22, wherein the Milwaukee Brewers won 3-2, Bryan LaHair had a leadoff homer in the seventh inning at a time when his performance had not been up to the mark.
That came as a reassuring reminder to the team that the rebuilding phase with the youngsters will be rewarding in the long run. This was the biggest hit that came after July 4, the last time he contributed something valuable for the Cubs.
The All-Star player is known for his talent and potential. To tap into that potential is something that the Cubs seek, as does the player himself.
His homer on Wednesday was a success in a variety of ways. He vows to be doing well for the Cubs in the days to come.
"I feel like I grind out most at-bats," LaHair said. "I see a ton of pitches. Very rarely do I ever go up and come right back. Usually, that brings a lot of success, and obviously, it hasn't as of late. I know it will and I'll keep doing what I do."
Having appeared in 102 games this season so far, LaHair has had a .254 average in 303 at-bats, with 15 homers and 34 RBIs, having maintained a .452 slugging percentage.
The Cubs would expect to avoid the three-game sweep against the Brewers, something that did not materialise. However, LaHair’s performance and other youngsters doing well lately, will go a long way to determine the future of the team.
LaHair spoke of his game plans.
“You go up and just swing at everything, you won't have much success," LaHair said. "It's usually the other way around -- when you see a lot of pitches, you have a lot of success. Battling tough pitches to get that next pitch is key to grinding out an at-bat.”
In the days to come, it will be interesting to see if he and other youngster elevate the team. Although this season may have not been satisfactory for them as in the years to come might well be different for them in terms of performance.
