Bryan LaHair’s name being considered for the Chicago Cubs' line-up – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs dropped a hint on Friday, June 29, that Bryan LaHair may get a start against the Houston Astros as the team prepares to compete. This came after it became known that the Astros will be using their left-handed pitchers against the Cubs.
While Anthony Rizzo will continue to be third in the batting line-up, since the starters will be left-handers, it is not clearly known who the Cubs will try once the right-hander is to start.
The team manager Dale Sveum made it clear, though, that it would be Rizzo who will remain the third hitter for the Cubs in the days to come. "[Rizzo] is our third hitter, and I don't see me changing that in the future," Cubs' manager Dale Sveum said Friday.
There have been a lot of talks about Rizzo lately due to his enviable skill, speed and force that employs when he is on the field. With such qualities that go to the favour of the young player, Rizzo is expected to charge up the offence of the team.
"You want a solid guy who can do a lot of things," Sveum said. "Obviously, home runs are nice, average is nice, but those key RBIs in the first inning are the biggest of all."
But what are the calculations and considerations for the future should the team plan to use another player provided Rizzo is to be given rest? The team is considering Bryan LaHair’s name.
"I'm thinking about it," the team manager responded to the question pertaining to who he is willing to use – chief among whom is the name of LaHair. "We have to see some results. Unfortunately, the results are not real competitive. ou do also need to give him a chance once in a while, especially against left-handers.”
LaHair’s recent performance, however, is not particularly good. That can go to his disadvantage. But the very fact that his name is under consideration shows that the team is willing to use him. It will be rare chance for him to do something great to book his place in the team.
