Bryan Redpath calls it a day at Gloucester – Rugby News Update
Rumours are rife that Bryan Redpath, the head coach of Gloucester, is going to Sale Sharks and the rumour mill went in overdrive after Redpath resigned as Head Coach of the team, with only two games to play in the Aviva Premiership.
In his announcement he emphasised that he had resigned due to the results rather than the force of working somewhere else. "It's a result driven business we're in and I hold my hand up and take full responsibility for the fact that we've not performed as
well as we should have,” he said.
For the last week there have been rumours going around that Redpath will be moving to Sale, following the departure of Tony Hanks. He is not the only person for the job, but he is certainly at the forefront.
He said in his letter, "I've offered my resignation with a heavy heart. I have dearly loved my time at Gloucester. It's a fantastic club in a true rugby city with devoted, passionate supporters. But, I think it's now someone else's turn to take charge."
Redpath took over as the coach of Gloucester in 2009 and in his first season as coach, he guided the team to a seventh place finish. However, the season was marked by the tragic death of owner Tom Walkinshaw, and this was a major blow to the team, as Tom
had been a long time custodian of the club. He fared better in his second season, which brought honours.
In the 2010-2011 season he was able to guide the team to a respectable third place finish, and they also won the Anglo-Welsh cup.
On his resignation, Ryan Wilkinson, a board member said that Redpath was a fine man and even though there are rumours he could be moving to another club, they believe he is a man of principles. Wilkinson said, "... he feels responsible for the recent run
of disappointing results on the field of play and feels that he has taken things as far as he can.”
It will unfold in the next few days if Redpath moves to new pastures even though he has categorically denied over the last week that is the case.
