Bryan brothers advances into the quarters at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters
Top seeded Bryan brothers are eying for a third title this season after advancing to quarters with a breadstick on Wednesday. They registered a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Latvian Serbian duo of Ernests Gulbis and Viktor Troicki, in
the 2011 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in Monaco.
Ranked 2nd in the ATP World Tour Men’s Doubles rankings, Mike and Bob Bryans are in their top form this season sporting a 16-4 win loss record so far. They won the title at US Men’s Clay Court Championship after defeating
John Isner and Sam Querrey in the final before entering this event. The American brothers also won the title at the season opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open, in Melbourne earlier this season.
In this tournament, Bryans displayed magnificent skills in the match and downed the combination of Gulbis and Troicki in straight sets in 47 minutes. In the opening set, the Americans held their serve in the first game spectacularly
and later kept their momentum. Later they held their serves and saved both breakpoints they faced. Bryan brothers finally found the coveted break in the eighth game to clinch the set with a 6-3 win.
The American tandem carried their winning ways into the second set and held their opening serve. Although their co-ordination level fell and they committed more double faults and unforced errors but they converted three out of
five breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to earn a breadstick.
Gulbis and Troicki blasted out the Australian Israeli team of Paul Hanley and Andy Ram with a bagel and a breadstick in just 42 minutes in the first round to reach this spot. Despite their good shape, they were outclassed against
the top seeds and couldn’t penetrate through their defences. Although they smacked five aces and committed less double faults they failed to capitalize on their breakpoint opportunities and saved only four out of eight breakpoints.
The American duo will next face unseeded Spaniards, Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo and can easily overwhelm their threat if they play with same co-ordination. The Spanish pair overpowered their countrymen, Feliciano Lopez
and Fernando Verdasco in a three set thriller in the first round. They then earned a breadstick after upsetting 7th seeded pair of French Michael Llodra and Serb Nenad Zimonjic to reach this spot.
Second seeds also advanced to the quarters at Monte Carlo Country Club. Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor overpowered Richard Gasquet and Ivan Ljubicic by 6-2, 7-5 in 63 minutes.
