Bryan brothers battle past Marach/Marrero to secure semi-final spot – Erste Bank Open 2011
Top seeded American brothers, Bob and Mike Bryans, warded off late resistance by the Austrian Spaniard tandem of Oliver Marach and David Marrero to register a straight set victory at the Erste Bank Open 2011, an ATP World Tour
250 series event held on the indoor hard courts in Vienna, Austria. They registered a 6-3, 7-6(2) score line over their opponents to book a semi-final spot on Friday.
Ranked number one in the ATP World Doubles rankings, Bryan brothers required only a single break of serve to overwhelm Marach and Marrero’s resilience in seventy minutes. After earning this victory, they stayed on course to shelf
seventh title this season.
Hungary for their seventy-fifth career title, the American twins blasted into the Wiener Stadthalle and got the first blood in the second game to have an edge. Later they bagged remaining serves and eventually clinched the opener
with a 6-3 win. The Americans manipulated a much better first serve share of 71 percent as compared to their rivals’ 46 percent and registered a perfect win on it. They warded off the only breakpoint faced and converted one out of five breakpoint opportunities
to their advantage.
The American duo kept momentum floating into the final set and smoothly held entire serves through their perfect co-ordination. However, they failed to find any breakpoint chance and took the set to a tie-breaker. Bob and Mike
outclassed the Austrian Spaniard pair in it and sealed the set with a 7-6(2) success. Furthermore, they again formulated a higher first serve share and registered a magnificent 81 percent win on it.
Next up for the winning combination of Bryan brothers will next confront fourth seeded Polish duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.
The Polish tandem battled past seventh ranked Indo Pak Express in almost one and half hour on their fifth face-to-face.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski made quick in-roads as they brushed off five breakpoints came across and converted one out of three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage in the ninth game to seal the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi got back on track in the second set. They went into overdrive mode to pull out an equaliser after breaking the Poles’ serve in the eighth game and keeping their entire serves. The Indo Pak
tandem dusted away both breakpoints faced and converted one out of two breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to register a 6-3 success.
The Polish duo found their rhythm in the right time. They clobbered a higher first serve share of 71 percent as compared to their opponents’ 57 percent and earned a perfect win on it. Fyrstenberg and Matkowski dominated in the
super tie-breaker to secure a 10-4 victory.
