Bryan brothers cruise into quarters of the Men’s Doubles – French Open 2011
Top seeded American, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan dumped Russian Kazakh pair of Teymuraz Gabashvili and Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets to advance into the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros 2011, a major clay court event held
in Paris, France.
Bryan brothers – ranked number one in the ATP World Tour Men’s Doubles rankings, warded off early resistance from the tandem of Gabashvili and Kukushkin in a troublesome opening set tie-breaker. They eventually outmuscled their
rivals by breaking their serve in the end of the second set to book a spot in the last eight.
Americans confidently entered court one and smoothly held their opening serve in the first set. They converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage but saved only two out of four breakpoints faced to drag
the set into the tie-breakers. The seeded brothers co-ordinated well in the tie-breaker and clinched the opener with a 7-6(6) victory.
They registered a slightly lower first serve share of 67 percent as compared to their opponents’ 71 percent but registered an impressive 68 percent win on it. The Americans also clobbered two double faults but sealed the deal convincingly
in an hour.
Bob and Mike perfected their co-ordination in the final set. They exchanged an early break and were levelled at 5-5 when they raised their level in the eleventh game to convert another breakpoint opportunity to their advantage.
The Americans then slapped serves to run a 40-love lead and with a forehand winner, they sealed the set by winning seven games to five.
They clobbered a higher first serve share this time and registered a spectacular 78 percent win on it. The brothers failed to save the only breakpoint faced and committed three double faults but converted two out of four breakpoint
opportunities to their advantage to comfortably.
The brothers celebrated their success by bumping their chests in a friendly celebration which has become their trademark.
Bryans, Robert Charles – Bob and Michael Carl – Mike, are in awesome form this season as and had shelved four titles already. They won the titles at Australian Open, Houston, Monte Carlo, and Madrid and they runner-ups at Sydney
and Barcelona. They entered this Grand Slam in high spirits and triumphed over Spanish Colombian pair of Pere Riba and Santiago Giraldo in the opening round in three sets. The Americans then dumped Australian British team of Chris Guccione and Jamie Murray
in straight sets to reach this spot.
Up next for the American duo is the Indo Pak Express. The fifth seeded pair of Indian Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi earned a straight set victory against the Kazakh Uzbek teak of Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin
to reach the last eight spot.
