Bryan brothers destroy Dlouhy/ Dolgopolov in first round – Valencia Open 2011
Top ranked and seeded American team of twins, Mike and Bob Bryan, destroyed the Czech Ukrainian pairing of Lukas Dlouhy and Alexander Dolgopolov in the first round of the 2011 Valencia Open 500 on Wednesday, 2nd November.
The Americans required only fifty minutes to secure a simple 6-3, 6-2 victory over their unseeded opponents.
This was the pair’s third meeting on tour with the Bryans moving into a three match winning streak over Dlouhy and Dolgopolov. The two teams had last clashed at the China Open in Beijing with the Americans securing an easy breezy
6-2, 6-2 win.
Befitting a top ranked team, the Bryans secured an early 3-0 lead in the first set capitalising off a few double faults from Dlouhy/ Dolgopolov. Maintaining their one break lead throughout the set, the Bryans eventually served
out the set to secure a 6-3 victory.
Hitting only one ace with no double faults, the Bryans capitalised off the five double faults from their opponents as they clinched a total of 31 of 51 points to go one up in the set score.
The American team maintained its dominance well into the second set allowing their opponents no room to refocus and bounce back. Clinching a break in the very first game of the second set, Bryans secured another early lead going
2-0 on the scoreboard. The next four games saw successive hold of serves from both the teams bringing the score to 4-2. The Bryans were continuing to lead a break and a service game up. Ensuring their straight sets victory, the twins broke their opponents
yet against in the seventh game before serving out the eighth to secure a 6-2 win.
With two aces and two double faults in the second set, Dlouhy and Dolgopolov hit an abysmal 42 percent on their serve clinching 20 of 46 points.
Already qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, the Bryans have ensured their seventh straight year end finish as the number one team with this win. As the team continues its bid for a title here, the Bryans next play
the Czech Slovak tandem of Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek.
