Bryan brothers down Robert Lindstedt/ Horia Tecau to Men’s Doubles trophy – Wimbledon 2011
Top seeded Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan triumphed for the second time in the Men’s Doubles final at the Wimbledon Championships 2011, a major grass court tournament held in London, England. They crushed the dreams of the eighth
seeded team of Swede Robert Lindstedt and Romanian Horia Tecau, earning a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(2) victory to earn the glory.
The beaming Bryans won for the second time in their fifth final appearance at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club after downing Lindstedt and Tecau in straight sets. This was their eleventh Grand Slam win and they have now
levelled with the famous legendary pair of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde for the most number of Grand Slam doubles titles.
The current Australian Open champions stormed into the Centre Court as they earned the desiderated break in the second game with the help from double fault Tecau committed. Bryans then held on to their remaining serves with perfect
co-ordination to clinch the opener with a 6-3 win in just twenty-seven minutes.
The 33-year-old twins kept their momentum into the second set as they earned the coveted break in the opening game after Mike hammered a winning backhand volley. Bob and Mike were barely threatened to held on to their entire serves
and eventually sealed the set with a 6-4 score line in thirty-three minutes.
In the final set, Bryans again faced zero breakpoint but they failed to find a breakpoint opportunity and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. They dominated in it by racing to a 6-2 lead before Lindstedt netted a forehand into the
net to hand the title to the veteran brothers.
The American twins showed amazing skills en route to the final as they triumphed over defending champions, Austrian Jurgen Melzer and German Philipp Petzschner in the quarter-finals and best the sixth seeded pair of French Michael
Llodra and Serb Nenad Zimonjic in a five set thriller to reach this spot.
Mike said after the match, "This is a Wimbledon title. This is as special as it gets. I always thought we'd play our best at Wimbledon and we've lost three heartbreaking finals. To get on that board again, to have two Wimbledon
titles, is really special.”
The American duo displayed master-class piece to oust the last year’s runners up in one hour and forty-three minutes and in doing so, they won their seventy-third career title. They dedicated it to their 90-year-old grandfather
who went through a critical surgery to fight Cancer.
"We'll keep going," Bob said. "We see our time out here as I think five or six more years. You look at (Daniel) Nestor. He's 39, almost turning 40. The guy's just having a great time still and he's playing well… I think we're going
to milk it as long as we can."
The Brothers are aiming to win more titles and play as long as they can to dominate the tennis world.
