Bryan brothers ease past Cermak/Polasek into final four – Valencia Open 2011
World number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan displayed their class again to oust the Czech Slovak team of Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek in straight sets at the Valencia Open 500, an ATP World Tour 500 series event held
on the indoor hard courts in Valencia, Spain. They registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over their opponents to book a semi-final spot on Friday.
Top seeded American Bryan brothers required only fifty minutes to tumble over the unseeded Czech Slovak tandem, ranked eleventh in the ATP World Tour doubles rankings, on their first meeting. They not only inched towards another
semi-final round but are also bidding for their seventy-sixth career title.
The American twins confidently entered at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències and bagged in entire serves through perfect co-ordination and angled shots. They defended the only breakpoint faced and cashed in the only breakpoint opportunity
to their advantage to seal the opener with a 6-3 success. The American team clobbered a lower first serve share of 68 percent as opposed to Cermak and Polasek’s 75 percent but earned a spectacular 88 percent win on it.
Bryans kept momentum sailing into the final set and after facing zero breakpoint, they quickly plucked in entire serves. In addition to this, the Americans converted one out of three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage
to pocket the set with a 6-4 victory. They formulated a higher first serve share of 76 percent as compared to their rivals’ 64 percent and registered a brilliant 84 percent win on it.
Next up for the seeded Americans is the Brazilian tandem of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares who stunned fourth seeded Indo Pak Express by a three setter mouth watering match.
The high flying Indo Pak collaboration of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi went berserk in the opening set. They unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to go on a six games tear and earn a bagel.
The Brazilians sought the winning track in the second set as they faced zero breakpoint and converted one out of two breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the equaliser with a 6-4 win.
Melo and Soares carried their winning ways in the super tie-breaker. They manipulated an equal first serve share of 67 percent and registered a perfect win on it to clinch the decider with a 10-8 score line.
Overall, the Brazilians produced a higher first serve share of 72 percent as compared to the seeds’ 67 percent. They dusted away three out of six breakpoints came across and capitalised on one out of five breakpoint opportunities
to their advantage.
