Bryan brothers power their way through Berdych/Mayer to reach semi-final – China Open 2011
World number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan from the United Sates carried its belligerence at the China Open, defeating the 46th combination of Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Florian Mayer of Germany, in the
quarter-final clash on Thursday afternoon.
Seeded at number one in the tournament, the Bryan Brothers exhibited their sheer brilliance yet another time to dispose of the dangerous combination of Berdych and Mayer in straight sets 6-0, 6-3, to make it to the semi-final of
the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 event.
Berdych and Mayer hung in the contest for merely fifty three minutes of play before they submitted to the top seeded duo in the second set. The Bryan Brothers registered their 49th victory of the current year and are
looking very strong to clinch their seven ATP doubles title in Beijing. It is the second time in the current year that Berdych and Mayer have suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of Bob and Mike. The American duo outplayed them in the semi-final clash
of the Canada Masters earlier this year, finishing at 6-2, 6-1.
Bob and Mike appeared absolutely unplayable in the contest and their serve remained unbroken throughout. The Americans secured 26 out of 34 first serve points in the contest and converted four of their nine break opportunities
to come out as the winner in the most authoritative manner.
Berdych and Mayer utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup, frittering away eight break chances to finish on the losing side in the end. They suffered three straight crushing serve breaks from the Bryans
and lost the opening set 0-6 to fall on the back foot right from the beginning.
Bewildered from the aggressive game play of the opponents, Berdych and Mayer kept coughing unforced errors in the following set as well. A fourth break point conversion from Bob and Mike in the eighth game proved disastrous for
them, as the top seeded duo closed out victory at 6-3.
The Bryan Brothers will take on third seeded duo of Michael Llodra of France and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia, in the semi-final round to fight for a place in the final of the China Open doubles. Llodra and Zimonjic were successful
against the unseeded combination of Marcel Granollers of Spain and Oliver Marach of Austria in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to reach the semis of the tournament.
