Bryan brothers reach final after double duty on Saturday – AEGON Championships 2011
Top seeded American Bryan brothers closed into the final after rallying past Argentinean Czech pair of Juan Martin Del Potro and Radek Stepanek in the quarter-finals, which was carried from Friday, and slaying fifth seeds, Austrian
Oliver Marach and Polish Marcin Matkowski with a breadstick in the semi-finals to reach the final of the AEGON Championships 2011 on Sunday.
Bob and Mike Bryan showed their class at the Queen’s Club in London when they truimphed in two matches on same day. Their opponents in semi-finals were fresh and had the advantage. The Bryans earned a 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-3 victory
over Del Potro and Stepanek in seventy-eight minutes and instead of stepping off gas in their second match of the day against Marach and Matkowski, they got charged up to earn a 6-2, 6-1 win in forty-three minutes.
The 33-year-old twins stormed into the opening set of the quarters and easily bagged entire serves. They found three breakpoint opportunities and converted one to their advantage to win the opener with a 6-3 win.
The pair lost their ways into the second set and despite converting one out of two breakpoint opportunities to their advantage, the failed to save the only breakpoint conceded and took the set to a tie-breaker. Bryans trailed in
it to lose the set with a 6-7(4) defeat.
The American duo went on rage mode in the decider and after dominating in it, they pocketed the final set, a super tie-breaker, with a 10-3 score line.
The brothers raised their level of game in the semi-final match which was held later that day. They displayed top notch performance in the first set and went on to hold their entire serves convincingly. Bob and Mike broke the lower
seeds’ serves twice to clinch the opening set with an assuring 6-2 score line.
They kept their momentum rolling into the final set and held all the serves with their amazing co-ordination. The Americans converted both breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the second set with a breadstick.
The Californian natives will face the Indian Express of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi who stunned second seeded Belarusian Canadian tandem of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor in an interesting three set thriller later that day.
The Indians lost the opening set after trailing in the tie-breaker but the made a comeback by prevailing in the second set tie-breaker to equalise. The third seeds then took a lead in the third set to eventually clinch the match with a 6-7(7), 7-6(6), 10-8
victory.
