World number 1 pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of USA crushed their country mates, wild card entrants Ryan Harrison and Jack Sock 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round of the men’s doubles event at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Sunday.
Bryans took just 38 minutes to oust their opponents in an extremely one-sided contest.
Bryans broke their opponents twice in the first set, winning it 6-1. The twins hit 79 per cent of the first serves in the opening set, winning 80 per cent of the points on them. They did not face a single break point in the set.
The Americans converted 2 of the 4 break points they received in the first set.
Bryans demolished Harrison and Sock in the second set, not allowing them to win a single game to win the set 6-0. The twins delivered 60 per cent of the first serves in the second set and converted 78 per cent of them into points.
Harrison and Sock saved 5 of the 8 break points they faced in the second set.
Bryan brothers are drawn to meet Austrian/Serbian pair of Oliver Marach and Janko Tipsarevic in the second round. Marach and Tipsarevic battled past Spanish/Argentinean pair of Pablo Andujar and Carlos Berlocq in three sets 6-7(7)
6-4 10-8 in the first round.
Mahesh Bhupathi/Leander Paes beat Eric Butorac/Jean-Julien Rojer 6-2, 6-3
Indian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes cruised past American/Netherlands Antilles pair of Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round.
Bhupathi and Paes won the opening set comfortably, breaking their opponents in the fifth and seventh games to win the set 6-2. They fired in 64 per cent of the first serves, converting 79 per cent of them into points. The Indians
saved both break points they faced in the first set. On the other hand, their opponents could not save both break points they faced in the opening set.
The proceedings of the second set were not much different from the opening set as Bhupathi and Paes broke their opponents twice, winning the second set 6-3. The third seeds hit a single ace and the same number of double fault in
the second set. The Indians kept their first serve percentage at 67 per cent and won 86 per cent of the points on the first serve. Bhupathi and Paes converted 2 of the 3 break points they received in the second set.
The Indians will face Marc Lopez and David Marrero of Spain in the next round. The Spanish pair defeated Kazakh/Uzbek pair of Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.
