Bryans, Mirnyi/Nestor move into title match – Erste Bank Open 2011
Top ranked doubles team of Americans Bob and Mike Bryan moved into the title match of the 2011 Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria on Saturday October 29th after doing away with the fourth seeded team of Poles, Mariusz
Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski. The top seeds took only fifty one minutes as they recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Poles.
Playing each other for the fifteenth time, the Americans extended their lead to 14-7 avenging their last week loss to the Poles in the quarterfinal of the Shanghai Masters.
Opening serve in the first set, Bryans rushed to an early 3-1 lead as they broke the Poles in the fourth game. From there on the pair continued to win on their respective serves. Riding the single breakpoint opportunity, the Americans
served out the set at 5-3 to clinch a 6-3 win going one up in the set score.
Carrying over their form into the second set, the Bryans started off on a high note breaking the Poles in the very first game. They then later extended their lead to 4-1 in the fifth game breaking the Poles for the second and last
time in the match.
Winning on their respective serves, the Bryans clinched the final set 6-2 as they served out a perfect eighth game.
Surviving six aces from the Poles, the Bryans registered an impressive 86 percent on their first serve as opposed to their opponents’ mediocre 67 percent. The Americans clinched a total of 56 of 94 points to seal their straight
sets victory.
Bryans now move into the title match where they will play the second seeded Belarusian Canadian duo of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor.
The second seeds coming from a fresh title win at Shanghai stand at seven match winning streak after doing away with the Argentinean Czech team of Juan Martin Del Potro and Radek Stepanek.
Meeting their opponent for the first time, the second seeds survived late resistance to secure a 6-3, 7-6(2) win in one hour and eighteen minutes.
With only three aces to DelPo/ Stepanek’s six and two double faults, Mirnyi and Nestor rode a single break opportunity to clinch a straight, yet not so simple, sets victory over the first time pairing. The winning team registered
an impressive 76 percent win on their first serve backed with an even more impressive 86 percent on their second serve.
