Bryans, Mirnyi/Nestor move to the third round – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Bryans beat Marcelo Melo/Juan Monaco 6-3, 6-4
Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan scored an easy victory over their opponents, beating Marcelo Melo and Juan Monaco in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Sunday. The one-sided match
lasted for just an hour and four minutes.
Bryans and Melo/Monaco held their serves in the first six games of the opener, levelling the score at 3-3. It was all Bryans show after that, as the twins snatched three straight games to close it 6-3.
The Americans saved both break threats they faced and converted one of the seven chances of their in the opener.
The twins and the Brazilian-Argentinean team broke each other once in the first four games of the second set to square off the score at 2-2. Bryans struck the final blow to win it 6-4.
The American duo and Melo/Monaco faltered on the second serves, committing three and four double faults respectively in the second set. However, Bryans made less unforced errors than their opponents throughout the match.
The Twins will take on Daniel Bracciali and Juan Sebastian Cabal for a place in the quarterfinals. Bracciali and Cabal ousted Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(7) in the second round.
Max Mirnyi/Daniel Nestor defeat Oliver Marach/Alexander Peya 7-5, 6-1
Belarusian-Canadian team of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor made short work of Austrians Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya, beating them in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 to qualify for the third round.
Mirnyi/Nestor and March/Peya did not lose their serve in the first eleven games of the first set to take the score to 6-5 in favour of the former. The Belarusian-Canadian duo struck in the 12th game to clinch it 7-5.
Ranked second in the world, Mirnyi and Nestor banged in three aces and 59 percent of the first serves. They were almost error free, as they captured 13 of the 17 first and 11 of the 12 second delivery points.
With the winning momentum on their side, the second seeds demolished their opponents in the second set. Mirnyi and Nestor allowed the Austrians to win only one game, making double breakthrough and pocketing it 6-1.
The Belarusian/Canadian combination put away all the five break threats they came across and utilised two of the four opportunities they received in the second set.
Mirnyi and Nestor are drawn to meet either Lukasz Kubot and Janko Tipsarevic or Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky in the third round.
