Bryans beat Zimonjic-Nestor to clinch doubles' title at 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel

The American duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan ousted Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor in a three setter clash to win the doubles crown at 2010 Swiss Indoors Basel Men’s doubles competition on Sunday. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 10-3. The duo also
secured the season end number one doubles' ranking as a result of this victory.
It was the eleventh trophy of the number one pair on the ATP tour in 2010. The Americans, who will end the season as the top ranked doubles team in the world on the sixth occasion in eight years, improved their title battle record to 11-0 on the season.
They have also won two Grand Slam crowns this year at the Australian Open in Melbourne and the United States Open in New York.
It is the second occasion in their professional life that they have captured eleven crowns in a year and they will definitely attempt to set a new career-high mark in their last two competitions of the season at the BNP Paribas Masters as well as the elite
eight man field in London.
The 32 year old twins, by virtue of this win, also extended their Open Era record of most tour-level doubles crowns after taking their 67th title on Sunday. They surpassed the mark previously set by Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge when they earned their
62nd title in Los Angeles earlier this season in August.
"We always feel great in Basel. The fans really show up for the doubles and give us a lot of love, so I think it brings out our best tennis. This year has been a very good year for us. It seems like we are playing our best tennis in the big matches and luck
has been going our way. Hopefully, we can continue that for a few more weeks, however you never know,” reflected Bob Bryan after their title victory.
Both the doubles teams had also previously met in the final of Mutua Madrilena Madrir Open back in May. They broke serve once each as they split the opening two sets however in the final tie-break, the doubles team from United States of America improved
their game and took a lead of 8-1 while wrapping up the win in the end. The match stretched to a time period of fifty nine minutes on Sunday.
“There was a lot of big hitting out there today, it was power doubles and we decided to switch back to our normal sides for the breaker to hopefully change momentum and it worked. We just caught a little spurt of good luck and it took us to the match,” declared
Bob Bryan.
The Bryans' superb form started with their record-breaking week in Los Angeles in August. Since then, they have only lost two clashes on the tour. This win marked their fourth crown in five title battles at Basel. They also won the titles here in 2002, 2004
as well as 2007 before finishing as finalist to Zimonjic and Nestor last season.
The Canadian-Serbian pair of Nestor and Zimonjic, on the other hand, was attempting to lift their second ATP World Tour title in as many weeks after winning the Vienna tournament a few days ago, dispatching off Fyrstenberg-Matkowski there. They, as a result
of this loss, have dropped down to 6-4 record in the tour level finals in 2010.
