Bryans conquer Mirnyi/Nestor to lift title – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
Top seeded American Brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan, tumbled over the Belarusian-Canadian pair, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, in straight sets at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012, a Masters 1000 event taking place at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in Monaco. They
joggled up a 6-2, 6-3 success against the second seeds to shelve their third Monte Carlo title on Sunday.
The defending champions showed top notch performance to outclass Mirnyi and Nestor in their fourth meeting. After bagging this 57-minute battle, the Americans not only levelled the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head series by 2-2
against the lower ranked seeds but also captured their 78th career title.
"It feels nice to win again in Monte-Carlo especially against two legends, Danny and Max," Bob was quoted after the match. "It wasn't the easiest of conditions with the swirling wind, but I thought we handled it well."
"It's been a great couple weeks in Monaco with the Davis Cup and now the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 event," Mike commented. "It's always a pleasure to see Prince Albert II and the beautiful scenery. We couldn't ask for a better place to win our 20th Masters
1000 title."
The high flying Bryan Brothers convincingly entered the Monte Carlo Country Club and held their opening serves with assurance. After their rivals held their serve in the fourth game, the Americans unleashed their skills and wiped out the proceeding four-games
in a row. They plucked their entire serves without facing any barrier and capitalised on two out of three break opportunities to seal the opener with a 6-2 win.
Ranked 2nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Bryans kept momentum rolling into the follow-up set and earned the desiderated break in the fourth game to leap at 4-1. Later, they held their remaining serves after brushing
off all three breakpoints encountered, eventually swiping in the set with a 6-3 score line.
All in all, the American brothers manifested a better first serve share of 58 per cent as opposed to their opponents’ 54 per cent and brilliantly clicked 23 out of 29 points on it. They spilled four double faults but clinched the match with 57 points.
Bob and Mike Bryan displayed top class performance throughout this clay court event. They cruised into the title-round without losing a set. The Americans also dumped fifth seeds, India’s Leander Paes and Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek, en route to the
final showdown.
