Bryant Jennings scheduled to take on Steve Collins for the vacant USBA heavyweight title – Boxing News
Bryant Jennings, the current USA Pennsylvania State heavyweight champion, is scheduled to defend his undefeated streak against a bit experienced pugilist, Steve Collins, in a 10-round bout, which will have the vacant USBA heavyweight title up for grabs,
on June 16, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Kathy Duva of Main Events. The showdown will be televised live on NBC Sports Network’s weekly boxing show and will be headlined by the IBF North American heavyweight title bout between Tomasz
Adamek and Eddie Chambers.
The showdown will be televised live from Prudential Center situated in Newark, New Jersey, United States. Bryant and Collins recently participated in a pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the bout each other.
Bryant, 27, has been in a total 13 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak. The young Philadelphia lad has nailed six of his opponents by knockout and has not lost even a single bout in his surging career.
Also known as ‘By-By’, Jennings caught media’s eye when he collected an impressive rather intimidating win over heavily experienced and most probably the toughest opponent of his career Siarhei Liakhovich.
During the media interaction Bryant aggressively vowed that he has just one agenda in his career - to grab a ‘W’ (win) in every fight. Jennings stated, “This is my 14th fight, with every fight it gets tougher and tougher. Everybody knows I come to fight.
I come to win – that’s my goal. I don’t have any other expectations for these fights. A “W” is just pretty much my goal. I hope you enjoy my fight with Steve Collins and I hope you see the future in both of us. ”
Bryant’s Saturday night opponent, Steve, 28, has experience on his side to aid him. Collins has been in a total 27 bouts and emerged victorious in 25. Also known as ‘The Freight Train’, Steve has nailed 18 of his opponents by knockout and therefore possesses
even a better knockout ratio than the young Bryant.
While sharing his feelings about the encounter with Bryant, Steve stated, “Thanks for the opportunity. It’s a big step up fighting on NBC. It’s definitely going to be a great fight with Bryant Jennings. I know I’m ready, he (Jennings) looks ready. Hopefully
come Saturday you guys will get what you want.”
Whether the duo fulfil the wild expectations of the crowd or not the bout is of a somewhat milestone nature for both as this is the first time that the duo is fighting for the country’s apex divisional title in fact for Steve, the bout is the career’s first
ever title one.
Therefore both men will try to nail each other. The odds to some extent are in favour of Steve as he has a better knockout ratio and above all experience with a slight height and therefore the reach advantage.
