Bryant Jennings overthrows Maurice Byarm, wins Pennsylvania State Championship – Boxing news
NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night show’s maiden extravaganza really did create frenzy among boxing lovers. On Saturday, January 21, 2012, Asylum Arena situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was overwhelmingly cheering and roaring for the two Philadelphians,
who were there to put up a great show and an emphatic piece of a 10-round bout.
In its premier show, NBC sports network televised its Fight Night shows main card fight between Maurice Byarm and Bryant Jennings, with the Pennsylvania State Championship gold for the grabs. The show was sponsored and promoted by various big guns such as
Go Daddy.com, Main Events, Peltz Productions and Greg Cohen Promotions.
Initially the show’s inaugural episode was jeopardised by Eddie Chambers’s injury. The show was bound to be televised in its main bout; the clash between two heavyweights Eddie Chambers and Sergei Liakhovich. However, just nine days before the stage was
about to set, Eddie revealed his rib fracture injury and pulled himself out of the brawl.
After his denial, NBC network strived their level best to find a proper substitute for the world number 57 heavyweight pounder but were unable to do so. Later on, the bout was altogether cancelled and two new names, that are rather amateur in the heavyweight
division, were put on cards.
Bryant Jennings is world number 87 and Maurice Byarm is world number 123. The thing that was common between both of them was their undefeated and invincible winning streak. Both men, though did not have much experience, were tantamount to each other as far
as talent, agility, skill, and boxing level is concerned.
Byarm, nicknamed as the Freight Train had been in 14 brawls and came out victorious in 13 of them while one was denounced as draw.
On the other hand, Jennings stood against 11 competitors and emphatically outclassed and outwitted all of them, hence securing 'Bye-Bye' as his nickname. Jennings proved his capabilities to the world back then.
The bout started and continued until the end of the 10th round, and after the unanimous decision by three judges, Bryant Jennings became the proud owner of the Pennsylvania State gold. Two judges, Steve Weisfeld and Alan Rubenstein gave 96-94 to the 27-year-old
Jennings, whereas the third judge Joseph Pasquale gave a score of 97-93.
After the heavy-duty title win, Bryant said, “That was a very tough fight. There were some very close moments during the fight and his shots to the body were really effective. Although he lost, it's not a bad loss and he shouldn't feel bad about the decision.”
The second brawl included Jesus Soto Karass and Gabriel Rosado. Rosado proved that he is the best and ruthlessly pounded the Mexican Soto to won convincingly. The clash was epic and it did make the crowd stand on its feet. Overall, the whole show was certainly
a success and was a good omen for the upcoming remaining 5 Saturday night episodes of Fight Night.
