Bryant boys volleyball team defeats Academy of American Studies in Public Schools Athletic League
The final of the Public Schools Athletic League tournament took place on Thursday.
The two teams that were competing each other for the championship title were the Academy of American Studies and the Bryant boys volleyball team. After the game finished, the team that was able to earn themselves the title of PSAL champions was the number
one ranked Bryant team.
Not only did Bryant earn the credit of achieving a win, they did so by making a clean sweep over their opponents. The two set back-to-back wins were obtained by winning each one by a comfortable margin.
By the time that Bryant had started celebrating their victory by thumping each other on the shoulders while the Eagles were having a tough time controlling their emotions, the scoreboard read 25-19, 25-22.
With their recent loss, the Eagles have brought up their number of defeats in this overall season to two. These losses have been incurred while earning themselves victories that are 13 in all. As compared to the performance statistics of Bryant, the overall
season record of the Eagles falls pale. The number of times that Bryant have experienced the thrill of a win in this season equals to be 16. They have been able to tally these wins by impressively keeping their number of overall season defeats to nil.
The first set of the match started off with Bryant able to assert their dominance early on. By taking the lead in the initial stages of the game, Bryant was able to put the pressure on the Eagles. As the match reached the middles stages, the lead still remained
with Bryant. However, the Eagles were able to close in the gap. This did not slow down Bryant as they charged towards the opening set win at 25-19.
After the loss of the first set of the game, the Eagles were sent a wakeup call. They felt the urgency of the situation and stepped up their game in order to give some competition to Bryant. As a result, most of the second set took on an intense as well
as competitive tone. However, the effort came in too late from the Eagles and Bryant bagged the second set at 25-22.
Coach Josh Yang of the Eagles said, “Definitely mixed feelings. The motto was get to the second round and see what happens. All my kids, if I told them we would make the finals I think they would have took it just to get the opportunity. That’s what we talk
about, the opportunity, giving yourself the chance.”
