Bryce Easton shares first-round lead at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Simola – Golf News

Bryce Easton carded a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the Sunshine Tour's Vodacom Origins of Golf Simola to share the top spot with Albert Pistorius and David Ryan on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
Easton started his round on the back nine of the course and carded a bogey on the 11th hole. Thereafter, he recorded a birdie on the very next hole to get back to equal par.
Another two birdies on the 15th and 17th hole, followed by a spectacular eagle on the 18th, took him to four-under par through nine holes that he played.
"I had a nice little chip-in for three on 18, which helped," he said of the eagle.
He continued his good form on the front nine and recorded two more birdies to finish on top of the leader board at the Simola Golf and Country Estate in Knysna.
Easton believes that he could have done even better, if he had succeeded in making the birdie putts that he received on the front nine of the course.
His putt shot stopped inches away from the hole several times, forcing him to settle for the par putt.
"Quite a lot of my putts seemed to just sit on the edge and have a look but didn't go in," Easton said. "The greens are rolling nicely, but some subtle breaks make them tricky to read. I'm obviously very chuffed with six-under".
Overall, it was a fantastic and composed round played by Easton, who did not let the opening bogey affect his overall performance on the course.
In the meantime, Pistorius had a great bogey-free round that he ended with back-to-back birdies on the final two holes.
He now wants to improve his record on the 2012 Sunshine Tour, as he already has two 11th-place finishes that came in the Telkom PGA Championship and the Investec Royal Swazi Open.
If he continues to record somewhat similar scores in the remaining two rounds of the event, he might at least succeed in recording his first top-10 finish of the season.
