Bryce Harper homers twice as Washington Nationals flatten Miami Marlins 8-4 – MLB Update
Rookie Bryce Harper was ejected by the first base umpire but Washington Nationals rout the Miami Marlins 8-4 at Marlins Park in Miami on Wednesday, August 29 in second game of their two match series.
Harper is an exceptional talent and he expects great things out of himself. However, he will have to stop breaking bats and throwing helmets to avoid losing his place on the Nationals’ big league roster.
According to a leading sports website, the quick tempered centre fielder was ejected after he spiked his helmet in the ninth inning after missing out on a chance to hit a third home-run. His helmet nearly hit the first baseman umpire who decided to eject
him but the first placed Nationals managed to snap their five game losing streak.
"Bryce couldn't control his emotions again," Johnson said. "I had a little chat with him. He'll get over it. He's just a hundred-percenter. He expects great things out of himself, breaks bats, throws his helmet. He's just got to stop it. We can't afford
to be losing him in a ballgame. He'll learn. He's young."
Similar incident took place in May earlier this year when Harper slammed his bat against a tunnel is desperation and ended up injuring himself. It will be interesting to see if he can learn from his mistakes to improve his overall attitude.
"I shouldn't have done it, but I don't like hitting into double plays," said Harper. "I just need to stop getting mad and live with it. I just need to grow up in that mentality a little bit and try not to bash stuff in."
Harper smacked a home-run to right in the fourth inning to break the deadlock and put Nationals on the board. Shortstop Ian Desmond earned an RBI single to right in the fourth and Harper belted his second home-run in the fifth to give Washington an impassable
5-0 lead.
Michael Morse, Kurt Suzuki and Jayson Werth drove in crucial runs to help Nationals end the contest on an aggressive note. Starting pitcher Ross Detwiler gave up just three runs on four hits in five plus innings for his eighth win of the season.
