Bryce Harper not to feature in World Baseball Classic, says agent Scott Boras - MLB Update
Agent of Bryce Harper, Scott Boras has made it clear the outfielder is not joining the National team for playing in the World Baseball Classic tournament. He has confirmed this amidst reports stating that Harper might represent the US flag in a transnational
event.
Harper had an amazing Rookie of the Year Award winning 2012 Major League season.
At such a young age, he earned praise from the experts of the game. To many, he is a legend in the making. The sight of watching a teenager battling against the Major League giants was fascinating for the fans around the world in the last season.
His flamboyance enriched with skills and an amazing talent makes him a treat to watch. It must be sad news for his fans that want to see him participating in the WBC.
The place where teams from various countries get together and fight it out for glory must have the best talent of the game present there.
Certainly, Harper can go a long way in making sure the National team puts up a strong performance there.
The Major League clubs are hesitant of sending their players to such events because of the possibility of injury. They do not think it as in the best interest of their organisation.
They spend a huge amount of money, which means getting players not to feature in their regular season expedition due to injury is the last thing that they want.
For instance if Harper is allowed to play WBC, he will be vulnerable. If due to some reason he gets injured, his presence in the whole upcoming season will be in jeopardy.
While his agent has discarded the possibility of the Harper featuring in the WBC, General Manager for Washington Mike Rizzo seems to have little complaints against his going there.
“When we’re asked about it, we’ll certainly give our opinion on it,” Rizzo said. “But if some of our players give the U.S. a chance to win, we’d certainly be honoured to have our players participate.”
Rizzo believes it will be an honour for the club if Harper represents the National team.
Off-course what he said does not mean the organisation has agreed on sending Harper there.
