Brydan Klein prevails over Baris Erguden in the first round – Istanbul Challenger 2012
World number 237th, Brydan Klein tumbled the local challenger, Baris Erguden in straight sets at the Istanbul Challenger 2012 on Tuesday. He jolted down a 7-5, 6-1 triumph in the first round of the
ATP Challenger Tour event taking place at the hard courts of Turkey.
The right-hander Turk confidently stepped on his local court and sustained his opening serve in order to clinch his lead. By the third game, he pushed the score line to 2-1, instantaneously it evened out to 2-all
in the next game. The players maintained their consistency and fiercely battled each other to attain the win in the opener. The players successfully held their serves in the initial set and without encountering any break point evened out the scores four times.
Klein broke his opponent’s serve, displaying his superb skills and pocketed away the set by a 7-5 win.
The 26-year-old Turk put forward a tough competition against the Aussie and pounced six aces, double faulting three times at the critical moments. However, he had a low first serve of 59 points, converting 19
of 24 first and seven of 17 second delivery points. In response to that, Klein fired six aces and committed double faults twice. He secured his winning lead with a higher first serve precision of 61 percent, capitalizing 16 of 19 first and eight of 12 second
serve points.
The final set proved to be easy deal for the Aussie professional so he comfortably jumped and broke his rival’s serve to crush his confidence. He quickly grabbed the opportunity and plucked the first four games
without facing any trouble. Erguden was unable retain his serve but he luckily managed to strike a single point in the fifth game and mark the score line with 4-1. Klein maintained his winning record and closed the match with a 6-1 win.
The Turkish professional manifested a 57 percent first serve accuracy, clamping away seven of 12 and one of nine second. In comparison to that, Klein managed to secure 60 percent first serve accuracy with 10
of 12 points.
Up next for the Aussie is the Spanish contender, Adrian Menendez-Maceiras. He slaughtered the second seeded American Rajeev Ram in the initial round of the Challenger.
