Bryden Macpherson ready for the Masters debut, to be paired with Ben Crenshaw
Bryden Macpherson and Ben Crenshaw will be playing the Masters Tournament this week, and will be paired together from April 5 to 8, 2012.
The first major of the year is about to start and the field looks set. There are many professionals and amateurs as well. All the players are excited to play the mega prize event.
The purse of the tournament is $8,000,000, out of which, the winner will earn $1,440,000, with additional 600 FedEx Cup points.
Macpherson, a 21-year-old Australian amateur golf player, will be making his debut at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
He has to face the 60-year-old Crenshaw, an American professional. The starting round will be difficult for the Australian, as he has to compete against the senior golfer, who has won 30 professional events in his career.
Similarly, Crenshaw has also won two Masters titles in 1984 and 1995. He also finished the major tournaments 25 times in the top-10 list of the leaderboard.
Macpherson recorded his first amateur win in 2008 at the Dunes Medal. He continued his winning streak and won the prestigious Australian Amateur Stroke Play and New Zealand Amateur Stroke Play in 2009.
Last year, he improved his performance, as he practised hard to make it to the Masters field. He successfully found a spot in the coveted event after winning the Amateur Championship in 2011.
"I'm excited, I'm obviously a bit nervous,'' Macpherson said. ''But it's a nervous excitement. I'm not scared of anything. I'm here playing some golf and mixing with the best players in the world and soaking up the atmosphere".
He is confident and aims high for the first major of the year. However, he has to face tough challenging rivals at the Augusta and only impressive strokes can help him.
"The people who play here give it a bit too much respect,'' Macpherson said. ''I think it's a very manageable course if you hit good golf shots. As long as you can have a grasp of the greens and get the putter going, you can play well".
There are many other high ranked players like Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Steve Stricker and all time favourite Tiger Woods.
The field is not so easy for amateurs and debut performers. Hence, only extra efforts and determination can benefit Macpherson throughout the four-day event in Georgia.
