Bryony Shaw aims for gold medal at Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth: ISAF World Sailing Cup
British woman windsurfer, Bryony Shaw is now aiming high to grab the gold at the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, the sixth leg of International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing Cup Regattas.
The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta will commence on Monday, June 6 at Weymouth and Portland. The event will be hosted by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
The London-born Shaw was the first ever woman surfer to bring the bronze medal to Great Britain in the Beijing Olympics Games 2008 in Qingdao on August 20. The Briton is now one of the top contenders
to take the gold medal in the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta.
However, the emotional remarks she gave after the victory, like a sliver screen speech, are still a memorable gaffe when she expressed her excitement, saying she was so “f***king” happy. After that,
she prompted an apology upon swearing on live T.V and said that she will never do that again on live television.
While speaking with the local media, Shaw said, "I’ve got a couple of podiums so far this season so now it’s all about getting things right for Weymouth and making sure I keep on getting those podium
finishes. I’m the only performance women’s windsurfer in the team so my focus is very much on beating the foreign girls."
She added, "I’m always kept on my toes in terms of trying to beat the foreign girls and I regularly train with them and I make sure I go to the World Cup meets because windsurfing is always developing
and progressing so you have to stay on top of things. I’ve definitely got good vibes of Weymouth as a venue and I definitely feel now that I’m in a position where my skill set is very suited to Weymouth."
The 28-year-old Shaw has been consistently performing well in the ISAF World Cup circuit so far, as she clinched four medals last year and in the current year she has grabbed two already. She believes
that she will have to work really hard as she has got tough competitors at the race.
