Bt internet am i mad for having it?

my internet is so slow,2mb top speed,i live south of london,not important enough to have 8 mb yet,sky and virgin seem much quicker same line,phoned their help desk in bombay,they know less then me,any one experiencing same problems.

BT is oversubscribed, can't provide enough bandwidth for its customers.

Yes, you're mad for having BT Internet, it's so expensive that you would have to be mad to have it.

BT has been a nightmare for us and really expensive with the phone line too. Free calls eves and weekends but hideously expensive if you use it in the daytime. The hub phone is rubbish and we're always losing the connection. I cannot wait until the end of our 18 month contract!!!

Yes, but not for the reasons you may think.

BT is not the slowest, but could be a lot faster and cheaper.

More importantly, they plan to team up with Phorm, a company that used to write adware. They have already conducted secret trials. See http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/01/...

They plan to track all your browsing activities and advertise to you based on what you browse for. Not just in the way that sites do, but actually examining all the data that passes through your internet connection.

Virgin and Carphone Warehouse plan to do this too.

If I need to explain why this is bad, then go for it anyway, you'd deserve each other!

I recommend O2 for the best price/speed combination, but that's only my experience.

If you are mad shake hands with your buddy up here in Scotland. I have it too and cant wait to get rid.

I'm supposed to get 'up to 4mg' - I wish. As soon as my year is up I'll be off to another server.

Phoning their technical helpline is a lesson in frustration trying to understand my own language and making myself understood so I just don't do it anymore.

My advice is look around for someone else and make sure their helpline is based in this country.

I'm with Be Unlimited. So no I'm not experiencing the same problems. Your sanity is not in question but your knowledge and wisdom are due for a review.

yes.3mb in scotland then when my home hub broke down they had to send in total 6 replacements as everyone they sent was faulty

Im with BT Broadband. I live in N,Ireland. It doesnt matter who you go with,it depends on your distance form the phone exchange . Also after 2years it has been reduced to £12.99 per month. Their is a new fibre optic cable out but i am not sure which Broadband Server is using it & its a lot faster. Go to http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/ & they will advice you of all you need to know .
