My BT landline phone is dead, not recieveing or making calls at all, tried testing all lines and even test sockety in main box, still not working, but my internet connection is fine, i phoned and reported this fault, but the operator keeps telling me it will cost £116 call out fee, then £99 per hour to fix, is there anything else i can do without them coming out? there is no point in tracking my fault as bt help is useless, seems to be thinking more ways to rip you off.

my landline number not working but internet is ok, both come through single line in the house.

  1. if your phone is busy when called there is a short on the line. Internet will work through a short.

  2. Try another phone in the test socket just to make sure it's not your phone (if you can't borrow one, they only cost £10 at Argos for the cheapest), or maybe your extension wiring.

The BT advisor clearly suspects the fault is on your equipment or extension wiring, hence the call-out and time charge. They will have tested your line during your conversation and found no line fault. Their responsibility stops at the master socket. Beyond that, you pay.

  3. I have had this problem before and BT have always been quite good in resolving it...  I have reported the problem on line and been able to track the progress...  Ring BT and ask them to do an actual line test... they will then be able to tell you if it IS a BT fault or not and also put a call divert on anyone calling your landline to divert it to your mobile or put an annoucement on saying the phone is out of order at the moment (at no extra cost).  If it is they will have to sort it (providing you pay the line rental to BT)

  4. same fault i had on tuesday ... ha ha... its a line fault ..

i bought a new fone before i rang BT ...durr on my part ..

ring bt .. they know this prob .. will be sorted in couple days

it will cost you nothing as your line rental covers faults to line .. its not your line ... you only rent it ..

if that does not work .. blow up BT HQ
