Bua Weem edges joint favourites in A7 race at Sittingbourne
The Sittingbourne Greyhounds Racing Track in Kent is a place where the wins don’t always come easy. In every race, the greyhounds engage in an epic 480m battle for the elusive number one
spot, and the many honours associated with this lofty position.
The A7 race that began Thursday evening’s 14-race card featured a pair of 5-2 joint favourites in Ravestock Wilma and Dunbolg Style. However, a win was not in the cards for either of these
two contenders, as Bua Weem (4-1) swept in and took the victory with a 30.17 finish after leading second.
Queen Atlantic, the 10-1 long shot, was a surprise second-place finisher in this race. However, she finished 5¾ lengths out of the top spot with a 30.63 finish due to some bumping on the
run up.
Instead of finishing one-two, the joint favourites finished three-four. Ravestock Wilma placed third in 30.69, which was ¾ lengths behind second place. Right behind her was Dunbolg Style,
whose early pace was not enough, as he finished 1½ lengths behind Ravestock Wilma in 30.81 to take fourth place.
Sublime Poetry’s (7-2) fifth-place finish was anything but poetic, as he checked in with a 30.89 finish that placed him a single length behind fourth place. Sixth-place finisher Flaming
Comet (7-2) burnt out early, and never showed. He finished the race in 31.65, a huge 9½ lengths behind Sublime Poetry.
Brer Bear (5-2) led halfway in the A5 race that followed, and won well to take home a big victory in 29.82. He fared much better than 2-1 favourite Lady Annie, who crowded first and bumped
second to finish the race in 30.58, which was 9 ½ lengths behind the winning dog.
Black Slick (7-2) was looking good out of trap four with an early pace, but bumped fourth to land himself in third place. He finished in 30.68, placing 1¼ lengths behind second.
Flying Louie (5-1) experienced some turbulence during his run by crowding first and bumping third and fourth. He finished a ½ length behind Black Slick in 30.72. Finishing in fifth place
was Karma Flash (3-1), who bumped first and fourth on the way to a 30.86 finish that was 1 ¾ lengths behind fourth place. More Than Handy, the 8-1 long shot, bumped fourth and missed fifth place by a head for a last-place finish in 30.87.
The favourites raced to some disappointing finishes today at Sittingbourne Greyhounds Racing Track, but they will all have a chance at redemption on Saturday 18 September. The 15-race
evening is scheduled to begin at 18:28 with an A4 race.
