Bubba Dickerson digs deeper in the lead at the Stadion Classic
Bubba Dickerson managed to keep the lead in the second round of the Stadion Classic at the Nationwide Tour battering high winds and searing temperatures. Dickerson scored an even-Par, 71 for the day and barely kept the contenders behind with a one-shot lead,
owing most part of it to his stellar performance in the first round. The former US Amateur Champion finished with an aggregate of six-under, 136 to better Joel Edwards (67) and Matt Hendrix (67).
"The wind was brutal. Swirling makes it the hardest. When it keeps stopping and going the other way it's just tough," he said. "I just couldn't get settled over the ball and changed clubs a lot."
Dickerson remained one-under for most part of the 18 holes. He kept switching clubs to suit the swirling winds and most of the times, he made the right selection. A wedge at Par-4, 5th earned him an eagle when he chipped the ball from 110 yards.
The ball bounced once and rolled back to drop in the cup.
"You keep doing good things and you build on it, but if you keep doing a bad thing every other hole, it's no way to shoot a good round," he added.
Dickerson’s long ordeal was more than evident when he hit the fairways half the times and only ten greens in regulation and his round included only 29 putts.
Patrick Sheehan, Troy Kelly, Rich Barcelo, Miguel Carballo, Luke Hickmott, Marco Dawson and Russell Henley are in contention for the fourth place, two shots behind the leader.
The half ways cut was placed at the top 76 plus ties at two-over Par 144. Two University of Georgia Seniors, Russell Henley and Harris English made through the half way cut along with 49-year-old Edwards, who is eyeing the top slot before heading to the
Champions Tour. Edwards has appeared in around 400 PGA Tour events and have been paying on a part time status due to his worsening back and elbow problems.
"Maybe you can talk them into letting me play some more," Edwards joked. "It's been a little frustrating but you play when you get the chance. It's taken a long time."
Tour’s money leader, Bubba Watson has taken a break from Nationwide Tour to participate in the Wells Fargo Championship while Brendan Pappas withdrew after the first round in wake of soaring back pain.
