Bubba Dickerson grabs the first round lead at the Stadion Classic of Nationwide Tour
Nationwide Tour’s veteran golfer, Bubba Dickerson finally decided to come out of wilderness to gain a convincing lead in the first round of the Stadion Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Cub, Athens.
Number six on the Money List, Dickerson has been battering numerous problems of his own which have caused him to take a back seat in the previous Nationwide Tour events. He missed the cuts in the last two appearances on the tour and had problems with his
back for quite some time.
Coupled with that, the course happens to be the toughest on the tour as if the searing temperatures were not enough to abet the players on a difficult day. Dickerson scored six-under, 65 to gain an easy lead in the first round of the event.
"I'm from Florida and I don't like cold weather," said the former U.S. Amateur champion. "The ball wasn't going far in the morning so the long holes were playing longer," he said. "It felt like the greens were frozen because the ball just wouldn't stop."
Dickerson has had a difficult season so far on the tour. His best for the season was his finish for the third place at Chitimacha Louisiana Open. He finished tied for 16th at the Panama Claro Championship and tied for eighth at the Pacific Rubiales
Bogota.
He missed the cuts on two events; the South Georgia Classic and the Fresh Express Classic. Dickerson could have led the round with a mind boggling lead when he was seven-under through 15 holes, but missed a birdie at 17th and bogeyed the final
hole.
Argentina’s Miguel Carballo is currently at the second position with his five-under, 66. Marco Dawson is at the third place, trailing the leaders by two shots. Dawson was also of the opinion that the 7,253 yards layout will not be providing any help to the
payers for the rest of the days.
"A few of mine hit the slopes just right and ended up close. It seems that there are a lot of shots where you're either real close or real far away." Said Dickerson.
Brendan Pappas has withdrawn from the event after first round due to a soaring back pain while Scott McCarron withdrew because of a bad shoulder.
