Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley and several top ranking players fail to make the cut at Barclays
A string of high profile players have now missed the cut at The Barclays, the first leg of the FedExCup Championship here at Plainfield Country Club. The course which has been facing lashing rains for the past several weeks played soft for most part of the
two days, overseeing some low scoring through the halfway mark.
The course has received 10 inches of rain the past two weeks and is all set to receive 10 more on Sunday with the forewarning of the approaching Hurricane Irene. The event has been cut short to 54 holes for safety purposes and tomorrow will be the final
day of the event.
The halfway cut was placed at four-under and some of the notable players on the circuit missed the cut including Davis Love III, Ricky Barnes, D.A. Points, Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley, Hunter Haas, Stuart Appleby and several others.
Bradley, the rookie who went over to win the PGA Championship, posted a disappointing display, carding no fewer than five bogeys on the second day. He closed for three-over, 74 on the second day against two-under, 69 on the first. The player stumbled on
four bogeys on the first day and a terrible double-bogey at par-four, 8th, to ultimately fall off the list of players making the cut.
Other rookies and first timers who have won an event on the PGA Tour for the year and who failed to make the cut on Friday includes, Lucas Glover, the Wells Fargo champion, settled for an aggregate of three-over. Brendan Steele, winner of the Valero Texas
Open, shot a one-under on the second day against his even-par score on the first to drop off the list of the final contenders.
The $7.5-million event has a winner’s share of $1,350,000 and the top 100 players from the event will proceed to the second round of the leg. Matt Kuchar, the top ranking American has successfully extended his first round lead in the second round and will
be hoping to make it through on the third and final day of the event.
Kuchar also won the Barclays last year and the course is more of a happy hunting ground for the 33-year-old Floridian.
