Bubba Watson's stint at the Northern Trust Open comes to an end
For all you Bubba Watson fans out there, we are afraid we have some disappointing news. Bubba has withdrawn from the PGA Tour's Northern Trust Open after carding an opening round of 76. The reason behind his withdrawal is being cited as a pulled stomach
muscle.
Bubba told reporters that he had already consulted doctors and had been told that there is nothing serious to worry about a week prior to the event. “Then it was still bothering me so I did a CAT scan, so I did an ultrasound and a CAT scan, so I did two
visits to the doctors two days apart,” revealed Watson after the first round.
The player, who recently won the second title of his career by winning the Farmer’s Insurance Open, says that he tried giving it a go but he just couldn’t concentrate on the game. This led to his not-so-great score of 76. He told reporters that his mind
was worried about his oblique muscle pull and he just couldn’t get his head in the game and his performance was suffering, hence the decision to withdraw.
Bubba’s performance during the back nine of the event indeed left a lot to be desired. He posted a 3-over 39 that included 5 fives and to top it all off, 3 of those fives were bogeys and he ended the first round tied for the 121st position. This
left him seven shots behind the leaders; definitely not a good day in office for him. We hope that after he recuperates from his injury, we see him back in action and maybe even win another title or two.
The latest on the tournament itself is that play was suspended due to bad light. The leaderboard after the first round stands at a nine-way lead. These players, at four-under-par 67, are Robert Allenby, John Senden and Aaron Baddeley from Australia. Joining
these players at the top of the scoreboard are Spencer Levin, Ben Martin, Carl Pettersson, J.B. Homes, Martin Laird and Bill Haas.
Play is scheduled to resume at 10:45 A.M. (E.T) on Friday to complete the first round.
