Bubba Watson aims a debut Asian Tour victory at the Thailand Golf Championship
The reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson is set to record his first International victory, when he tees off next month at the Thailand Golf Championship, slated to start from December 6, 2012.
The tournament will be played at the Amata Spring Country Club, Bangkok, featuring some of the big names from different parts of the world.
The US$1 million Asian Tour event is well reputed for attracting a strong field every year.
Some of the  prominent names, who have already confirmed to participate in the event, include the defending champion Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Hunter Mahan and Ryo Ishikawa.
Watson is now relishing the opportunity to make his debut in the event this year and plans to return home with the winning trophy in hand.
“I would love to walk away with the trophy there. I’m looking forward to going to the Thailand Golf Championship and challenging myself and challenging the golf course and trying to beat some of the best players in the world,” said Watson.
According to the 34-year-old, his playoff victory against Oosthuizen at the Augusta National Golf Club will help add more titles to his resume.
“To pull that off to win and put on the Green Jacket, it was very special. It hasn’t changed me as a person, but it has changed me as a golfer,” he said.
He added, “Knowing that I can do it and perform under pressure, I’m looking forward to many more Majors and trying to win more Majors and another Green Jacket”.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he also revealed that Westwood was the man who convinced him to participate in the second-last tournament on the Asian Tour roster.
It will be Watson’s second trip to Asia, after having participated in the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions last week. The tournament was held at the Mission Hills Golf Club in China.
Watson, who ranks eleventh in the Official World Golf Rankings, also stated that the major reason behind his improved position in the standings is his family life.
Seven months ago, he, along with his wife, adopted a child, Caleb, and dedicated a handsome portion of the season to his family.
Right after winning the Masters Tournament, the left-handed American took three weeks off, prior to appearing in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Thereafter, he took another four weeks off and did not play a single tournament during the month of May.
With four PGA Tour victories registered to his name, Watson now wants to play more events around the world and win some International events.
According to him, the game of golf has evolved immensely in the Far East. Therefore, he would love to raise a trophy in that region too.
