Bubba Watson and Ernie Els will feature in the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
The reigning Masters and Open champions, Bubba Watson and Ernie Els, respectively, will be featured in the elite field of this year’s World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, slated to start from November 1, 2012.
The last of the four WGCs will be played at the Olazabal Course at the Mission Hills Golf Club, China. HSBC Champions is the only WGC event held outside the United States, and the richest golf tournament on the Asian soil.
Watson, who earned his first major golf championship victory this year, will be making his debut in the $7 million tournament.
The American, who has not tasted success since his victory at the Augusta National Golf Club, is now relishing the opportunity of playing in China.
Watson is currently enjoying a great form on the PGA Tour. He came close to his second victory of the PGA Tour season a couple of times.
However, luck was not at his side each time he contended for the top spot on the leaderboard. He finished tied for the second and the fifth position at the Travelers Championship and the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, respectively.
In addition to that, he never finished out of the top-25, except in the Memorial Tournament and the US Open, during his post Masters Tournament campaign on the tour.
Therefore, he is now confident to end the season on a high note, by adding a WGC title to his resume next month.
“Winning my first Major at the Masters in April has made this an amazing year but I haven’t won since so I’d love to end my year with my first World Golf Championship win,” he said.
He added, “Asian golf is definitely on the up and up and I am excited to go there and see it and experience it for myself. I love travelling, we are blessed as golfers to have the chance to travel all over the world and I can't wait to experience China and
look forward to making new friends”.
Els, in the meantime, is also happy to make a return to Shenzhen. Earlier this season, he won the Open Championship, the fourth major championship title of his career.
He is always regarded as a strong addition to the tournament held at the Mission Hills Golf Club. This year, he is no doubt among the hottest additions to the tournament because of his sparkling form.
The former major champions who have confirmed to participate in the event include the 2010 US PGA Champion Martin Kaymer, the four-time major champion Phil Mickelson, the 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, the 2011 US PGA Champion Keegan Bradley and many
more.
The former world number one players, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, have also confirmed to participate in this year’s edition of the tournament.
