Bubba Watson and Keegan Bradley lose ground in the final round at WGC Cadillac Championship – Golf News
The two Americans, Bubba Watson and Keegan Bradley, lost their ground in the final round of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship to move down on the leaderboard on Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Watson, who entered the round at the first place on the leaderboard, with a 17-under par overall score, started well in the final round too with a birdie on the par-five first.
However, he faltered afterwards and carded three consecutive bogeys, starting from the par-four third.
“When I get off — or what I consider off — it’s always ball position: too close, too far, too far forward, too far back,” Watson said.
He stated, “I love to move the ball a lot, so my ball position changes every 30 seconds. I was trying to find it a bit in my driver”.
“First hole I pulled it, but a little bit, but not bad, made birdie. Hit 3-iron off the second tee. I pulled it a little bit. Then I sliced it on [No.3], sliced it on 5. I started finding it on 6,” he continued.
At the end of the front nine, he added four bogeys in total to his scorecard and one on the back nine to finish two-over par 74 in the round. His final score was 15-under par 273.
Even though Watson had a poor round overall, he received a chance to force the game to enter into playoffs with a birdie on the par-four 18th.
However, he missed an easy eight-foot putter because of the pressure he was under at that time.
On the other hand, Keegan Bradley, who had an even better start to his round with an eagle on the par-five first, faltered on his back nine, where he scored three bogeys and a double bogey to end the round on the 18th.
There was not a single hole that saw him trying for the birdie shot on the back nine, which became the major reason for his slumping position on the leaderboard.
He scored a three-over par 75 to move six positions down, finishing tied for the eighth with Bo Van Pelt, Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar at an 11-under par overall score.
Meanwhile, Justin Rose took advantage of the poor form of both the players and carded a round of two-under par 70, which was enough to give him a one-stroke lead over Watson at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa.
It was his first ever victory in the World Golf Championship.
