Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson blow away Peter Hanson and Paul Lawrie
It was a deadlock after the foursomes but the current US Open and Masters Champion, Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson made sure that the Europeans stay on the back foot.
The left hander, Watson and the rookie, Simpson absolutely bamboozled the European duo of Peter Hanson and Paul Lawrie.
The American duo showed the world why they are major winners with their high profile shot making and execution.
Watson and Webb stormed in to lead with a birdie barrage which clearly unsettled the Europeans. Six birdies in the first eight holes and the match was already over for Hanson and Lawrie.
By the time the teams reached the 10th, there were loud chants of U.S.A, and this is what basically the Ryder Cup is all about – the crowds are louder than ever.
"You've got to get them involved," Love said of the crowd. "We didn't do a very good job of that right out of the gate this morning ... we came out a little bit flat right in the beginning”.
Hanson and Lawrie did win the 11th hole but it was too late. The Europeans had already succumbed to the Americans’ aggression.
Three consecutive ties on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes meant that the match was already over with four holes to play. This is one of the biggest margins of defeat ever suffered in the Ryder Cup.
The Americans won by 5&4, giving USA the lead for the first time on Friday. On Saturday, the American duo of Bubba and Simpson will take on Ian Poulter and Justin Rose.
Poulter has been very vocal recently in the build up to the Ryder Cup. It will be a very interesting matchup, as the Americans are in hot form.
Another sizzling display from the Watson and Webb can silence Poulter for the rest of the tournament.
The Americans enjoy a healthy lead going in to the second day and this is mostly due to the good work of the American rookies, especially Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley.
Keegan was instrumental on Friday, winning both of his matches and giving the team USA a 2 point lead heading into Saturday.
