Bubba Watson commits to play the Thailand Golf Championship
The reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson has committed to play in the Asian Tour’s Thailand Golf Championship, at the Amata Spring Country Club, in December.
It will be his debut appearance in Thailand and he expects a good competition from some of the big names, who have already confirmed their participation in the event.
Sergio Garcia, the winner of PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship this year, is among the key players who will display their skills in Asia.
Garcia is currently enjoying a great form on the US circuit and is preparing to represent the European continent for the sixth time in the Ryder Cup this month.
While making the announcement of his participation, Watson told that he came to know about several good things about the region, from his friends.
"My friends have told me lots of nice things about the country, the beautiful beaches and the great food and of course the friendly people," said Watson. "I'm really excited about playing in the Thailand Golf Championship in front of all the fans there and
I also hope to experience the Thai culture”.
In the meantime, Lee Westwood will also return to defend his title, which he won last year.
Westwood fired an amazing 12-under par 60 in the opening round and finished the tournament with a record setting 13-under par 59 – a feat that no one else has achieved in the history of the Asian Tour.
"It was one of the best rounds I've ever played," said Westwood. "I was just on a roll. I hit a lot of fairways and my putting was good”.
According to him, the Asian golf courses always suit him and he is optimistic about the successful defence of the title this year.
"I had an incredible time last year,” he admired. “The fans were great and backed me all week”.
Apart from Watson, a total of three other major champions, the 2011 Open champion Darren Clarke, the 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel and the 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, are also included in the field this year.
The three-time Asian Tour number one Thongchai Jaidee will also be there, to cherish the local fans. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in Asia.
