Bubba Watson considers his Masters victory a direct gift from God
Bubba Watson surged to the limelight with his meteoric rise to fame after landing the first major title of his career, the glistening Masters at Augusta National last week.
While many facets of Watson’s personality are now being revealed, the 33-year-old left-handed golfer claims that his victory has been a direct gift from God.
Watson who won the title after overtaking the speedster Louis Oosthuizen, who pulled in an unprecedented double eagle in the history of the event, has turned out to be a highly religious personality and has firm belief in Father and the Holy Spirit.
Watson said, "Knowing that God has a purpose for me, no matter what, he has a purpose. And for some reason he has chosen golf for me. There are so many great Bible verses that mean a lot to me and they all have behind them the message, 'Jesus loves me'".
Watson is now heading home to his newly adopted son, a 6-week-old boy Caleb and for some strange reason, he is jubilant about the prospects of changing diapers of his newly adopted son.
He added, “I haven't changed a diaper yet, so probably going to have to change a diaper pretty soon”.
Watson remains one of the eccentric personalities of the sport and is probably the only professional golfer who never hired the services of a professional coach.
His only coach was his father Gerry Lester Watson, Sr. who died in 2010, succumbing to a deadly throat cancer.
Watson broke into tears as he sank the second playoff hole for a par and wept for a while, probably reminiscing his father who was not there to witness his rise to stardom.
Watson plays with a pink driver, a custom made G20 designed by Ping and has a penchant for the pink colour.
He is also part of the four-member PGA Tour boy band, “The Golf Boys” and released their first official video on YouTube, the “Oh Oh Oh”.
Watson has won six professional titles in his career after he turned professional in the year 2003. He has four PGA Tour victories on his belt, two of them coming just last year when he broke headlines with his exceptional putting and long drives.
He is also known as the longest striker on the PGA.
