Bubba Watson eager to record a victory at the Thailand Golf Championship
The reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson has set his sights on ending his 2012 campaign on a high note, by winning this week’s Thailand Golf Championship.
The Asian Tour event is slated to start from December 6, 2012, at the Amata Spring Country Club in Bangkok.
After reaching the venue course on Tuesday, the left-handed American said that he will try to play at his best, when he will make his debut in the US$1 million event.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, Watson revealed that he brought a completely new set of clubs with him.
“Pretty much everything is brand new since China and I’m trying to get ready for next year. I worked on it last week (Chevron World Challenge) and finished ninth, and it’s feeling better. I missed some putts and hit some bad shots last week but I’m looking
forward to the momentum of this week and trying to play some good golf,” he said.
Watson, who defeated Louis Oosthuizen in the sudden-death playoffs to claim his victory at the Augusta National Golf Club, expressed his pleasure in joining the league of major champions.
“If you look back, all golfers want to win. Their first goal is to win a golf tournament that year. For me, I’ve won a tournament in the last three years and to win a Major is a bonus,” he said.
Last year, the 34-year-old announced his withdrawal from the inaugural edition of the Thailand Golf Championship, after he suffered a stomach ailment.
This week, he is expecting a strong competition in Thailand, as the tournament has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Nicholas Colsaerts and the defending champion Lee Westwood.
In addition to that, eight of the top-10 players in the Asian Tour Order of Merit will also tee off this week in Bangkok.
Thaworn Wiratchant, in the meantime, will be a man to watch at this week’s tournament, as he currently holds the top spot in the money list.
If he succeeds in retaining his position on the top, he will become the Order of Merit champion for the second time in his career.
